In 1819 King Kamehameha II of Hawaii, held a festival to celebrate the end of religious taboos concerning dining in the country. This feast was called the Luau and is still celebrated to this day. At the Old Lahaina, a Luau party starts with a greeting of a fresh flower lei presented to you by your host for the evening.
